My name is John Holt. I own and operate the Holt Guitar Studio out of my house in Lake Monticello in Fluvanna County just outside of Charlottesville.
I have been teaching people how to play the guitar for over 10 years in classical, blues, jazz, folk, country, bluegrass, worship, and rock guitar styles. To view my performance history, artists I perform with, and samples of my playing, please see my performance website.
While I have many adult students that I greatly enjoy teaching, I specialize in working with children and adolescents. With many of my young students, I teach the guitar using the Suzuki guitar method and I am a registered teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
Before opening the Holt Guitar Studio, I taught at numerous institutions including the UNC School of the Arts, as part of a graduate assistantship in Winston-Salem, NC, The Catoctin School of Music in Leesburg, VA, and The Music School in Vienna, VA.
Previous students of mine have gone on to earn performance awards and acceptances into music programs at major universities around the country. The most important quality that I try to instill in all of my students is a great work ethic and the ability to accomplish goals. Many of my students do not become professional musicians, which is no problem, but I know they leave my studio with the ability to work hard and be successful in whatever they pursue.
